Site Investigation & Remediation

Field equipment for environmental investigation, sampling and site characterisation

Flux Enviro supplies specialist field equipment for site investigation, contaminated land assessment, groundwater investigation and environmental research across the UK and Ireland.

Our range covers the practical requirements of field investigations, from soil and groundwater sampling, borehole monitoring and water-quality measurement to gas monitoring, VOC screening and specialist environmental sampling equipment.

Different investigations require different sampling and measurement methods. We work with environmental consultants, contractors and research organisations to understand the site conditions, investigation objectives, required samples or measurements and subsequent analysis before recommending equipment.

Equipment is available for purchase or rental, allowing instrumentation to be matched to each investigation. Rental provides access to specialist, calibrated equipment for short-term projects, additional capacity during busy periods or instruments that may only be required occasionally – without the cost of purchasing and maintaining dedicated equipment.

Soil Sampling

Equipment for collecting disturbed and undisturbed soil samples for site investigation, contaminated land assessment, soil characterisation and environmental research.

Equipment includes:

  • Hand and powered soil augers

  • Edelman and specialist augers

  • Soil core samplers

  • Window sampling equipment

  • Undisturbed soil samplers

  • Bulk density sampling equipment

  • Extension rods and handles

  • Specialist sampling accessories

Equipment can be selected according to soil conditions, investigation depth, required sample volume and subsequent analysis, with both manual and powered options available.

Water Sampling

A range of equipment is available for collecting groundwater and surface water samples during environmental investigations.

Equipment includes:

  • Bailers and disposable sampling equipment

  • Waterra inertial pumps

  • Peristaltic pumps

  • Submersible sampling pumps

  • Bladder pumps

  • Low-flow sampling systems

  • Tubing and sampling accessories

  • Flow cells for field parameter measurement

Sampling methods can be selected according to borehole diameter, depth to water, required flow rate and analytical requirements.

For more detailed information on groundwater sampling methods and monitoring, see our Hydrogeology & Groundwater Monitoring solutions.

Water Level & Interface Measurement

Manual and electronic instrumentation is available for measuring groundwater levels and monitoring changes during site investigations.

Equipment includes:

  • Manual water-level meters

  • Oil/water interface meters

  • Water-level and temperature loggers

  • Pressure transducers

  • Barometric pressure loggers

  • Conductivity, temperature and level loggers

  • Water-level logging for pumping tests and investigation programmes

Instrumentation can support groundwater surveys, pumping tests, contaminated land investigations and short or long-term monitoring programmes.

Field Water Quality

Field water-quality instruments provide immediate measurements during groundwater and surface water investigations and are particularly valuable during purging and sample collection.

Available measurements include:

  • pH

  • Conductivity

  • Dissolved oxygen

  • ORP

  • Temperature

  • Turbidity

  • Salinity and TDS

  • Multiparameter measurement

Our range includes YSI handheld water-quality instruments and multiparameter systems, which can be combined with flow cells for low-flow groundwater sampling or used for direct measurements in surface water.

Gas Monitoring

Portable gas instrumentation is available for site investigation, landfill, contaminated land and confined-space applications.

Available measurements include:

  • Methane (CH₄)

  • Carbon dioxide (CO₂)

  • Oxygen (O₂)

  • Hydrogen sulphide (H₂S)

  • Carbon monoxide (CO)

  • Differential pressure

  • Selected additional gases

Equipment ranges from portable field instruments for individual investigations to instrumentation suitable for routine monitoring programmes.

Photoionisation Detectors (PIDs)

Portable PIDs provide rapid detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and are widely used during contaminated land and environmental site investigations.

Applications include:

  • Soil headspace screening

  • VOC detection

  • Borehole and soil-gas screening

  • Contaminated land investigations

  • Hotspot identification and delineation

  • Remediation verification

PIDs provide immediate field measurements, allowing investigation teams to rapidly screen locations and use the results alongside targeted sampling and laboratory analysis.

Equipment Rental

Site investigation requirements can change significantly from one project to the next. Rental provides access to professional, calibrated field equipment when and for as long as it is required, without purchasing equipment that may only be used occasionally.

Our rental fleet includes equipment for water sampling, groundwater level measurement, water quality, flow measurement, gas monitoring, VOC screening and other environmental field applications.

Rental can be particularly useful for:

  • Short-term site investigations and monitoring programmes

  • Specialist equipment required for individual projects

  • Additional instruments for larger or multi-team investigations

  • Temporary replacement or backup equipment

  • Trialling equipment before purchase

Equipment is prepared and checked before dispatch, with calibration and technical support available where applicable.

Equipment for the Investigation

Site investigations frequently require several sampling and measurement methods to be used together. Flux Enviro can help identify suitable equipment based on the investigation objectives, site conditions, borehole configuration, target parameters and required outputs.

Equipment can be supplied individually or assembled into practical field packages, with purchase and rental options, calibration, servicing and technical support available.

Whether equipment is required for a few days, a longer monitoring programme or as a permanent addition to your field fleet, we can help select the appropriate instrumentation.
