Surface Water Level Monitoring

Surface water level monitoring provides a continuous record of changing conditions in rivers, streams, lakes, wetlands and drainage systems. It is widely used for flood and drought monitoring, catchment studies, abstraction and discharge assessment, environmental compliance and flow calculation at gauging locations or control structures such as weirs and flumes.

Our surface water level monitoring solutions include;

  • Pressure-based (piezometric) water level monitoring - Absolute Loggers or vented sensors

  • Staff gauges and manual reference measurements

  • Stilling wells and sensor mounting systems

  • Remote water level telemetry - discrete or sensor networks

Flow Measurement

Measurement of flow in rivers is built on the fundamental Q=AV formula. Flow conditions within a channel are influenced by channel geometry, slope, roughness, stage, vegetation, velocity and flow conditions. As such the most appropriate methodology and technology should always be considered on a site and application specific basis.

Our flow monitoring solutions include ultrasonic doppler sensors;

  • Acoustic Doppler Velocimeters (ADV) SonTek FlowTracker2

  • Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP) SonTek RS5 and M9

  • ADCP vehicles - Manual boards and autonomous surface vehicles such as Surfbee

  • Fixed ultrasonic doppler sensors Sontek IQ and SL for open channels and pipes

    Flow control structures;

  • Flow control structures - Flux Enviro Weirs and Flumes

    Gauging methods - empirically derived or correlated within velocity measurements;

  • Level sensors

  • Vented level loggers

  • Gauge boards

    Velocimeters;

  • YSI Flow Probe

    We strongly recommend discussing all flow monitoring requirements with us at an early stage to ensure we deliver the right method in the right place!

Rainfall & Catchment Monitoring

Meteorological monitoring offers valuable insight into catchment response and can also inform forecasting/predictive modelling. We offer weather systems to monitor;

  • Rainfall

  • Air temperature

  • Relative humidity

  • Barometric pressure

  • Wind speed and direction

  • Solar radiation

Rainfall and meteorological monitoring systems are available as standalone deployments or as multi-parameter multi-sensor networks with remote data access.

Surface Water Quality

Measure water quality in rivers, streams, lakes and other surface waters using YSI handheld instrumentation or continuously deployed multiparameter sondes. YSI handheld instruments provide flexible field measurement for routine monitoring, surveys and verification, while YSI EXO sondes provide a configurable platform for continuous multiparameter monitoring and longer-term deployments. EXO systems can be integrated with telemetry for remote data access, allowing water quality to be monitored alongside water level, flow, rainfall and other hydrological parameters within the same monitoring network.

Our solutions include:

  • YSI ProDSS multiparameter handheld systems

  • YSI ProSolo ODO and ProQuatro field meters

  • YSI EXO multiparameter sondes for continuous deployment

  • YSI Pro Sample composite / auto-samplers

  • Telescopic samplers

Remote Monitoring & Telemetry

Connect water level, flow, rainfall, water quality and meteorological sensors to independent telemetry units or sensor networks. Systems can include;

  • Cellular telemetry

  • Cloud-based data access

  • Automated alarms and notifications

  • SDI-12, Modbus and analogue sensors

  • Solar, mains and battery-powered installations

  • Multiparameter monitoring stations

  • Multi-site monitoring networks

Flux Enviro can support the complete installation, including sensor selection, power system design, telemetry, enclosures, mounting, commissioning and ongoing maintenance.

Permanent Hydrological Monitoring Stations

Reliable long-term monitoring depends on more than the instrument itself. Sensor location, hydraulic conditions, mounting, power supply, communications, physical protection and maintenance access all influence the quality and continuity of the data.

Flux Enviro can support the complete monitoring system:

Site assessment → system design → equipment supply → installation → commissioning → telemetry configuration → servicing and maintenance

This allows us to develop monitoring stations around the requirements of the site to ensure accurate and representative field monitoring data.
