Sontek SL Series

The SonTek-SL Series is a side-looking Acoustic Doppler Velocity Meter (ADVM) designed for continuous measurement of water velocity, level and flow in rivers, canals and other open channels.

Installed horizontally from a riverbank, bridge, canal wall or other structure, the SonTek-SL measures a profile of water velocities across the channel using acoustic Doppler technology. This makes it particularly well suited to permanent monitoring locations where conventional stage-discharge relationships may be affected by changing downstream conditions, backwater or variable channel hydraulics.

Using an index velocity rating, measured velocity can be related to the mean channel velocity to provide continuous discharge measurement. Integrated water level measurement allows flow area to be calculated as stage changes.
