Russian Corer (Peat Borer)

Purchase

The Russian Peat Corer is a specialist sampling tool designed to recover high-quality, relatively undisturbed core samples from peat, soft organic soils, and saturated sediments. Widely used for peatland restoration, environmental assessments, wetland investigations, and palaeoecological research, the Russian Corer enables accurate sampling while preserving the natural structure of the deposit. Its side-filling, hinged chamber design allows for efficient sample recovery with minimal disturbance, making it the preferred choice for peat profiling and sediment investigations.

The Russian Corer is also suitable for sampling alluvium and marine sediments from the shore, vessel or other platform. Uniquely this corer enables sampling of such sediments at depth without the need to temporary casing.

High-Quality Core Sampling

The corer uses a semi-cylindrical chamber with a serrated cutting edge to slice cleanly through fibrous peat and soft sediments. Once the required depth is reached, the corer is rotated through 180°, capturing an intact core, typically 500 mm in length, for easy extraction and examination.

The hinged chamber opens fully to allow simple removal of the sample while preserving its stratigraphy.

Flexible & Modular Design

The Russian Peat Corer features Hex Quick Pin connections, making it compatible with a wide range of extension rods and auger accessories. Additional extension rods allow sampling at greater depths, while compatibility with the AMS Slide Hammer enables effective sampling in firmer soils and compacted sediments.

Typical Applications
