The Russian Peat Corer is a specialized tool designed for extracting undisturbed, semi-solid core samples from soft, saturated soils such as peat, soft organic soils and sediments. Ideal for environmental studies, paleoecological research, and wetland soil analysis, this side-filling corer features a hinged chamber that captures a full, intact core—typically 50 cm in length—with minimal disturbance.
Constructed with durable stainless steel, it operates via a half-cylinder chamber and serrated edge that slices through fibrous materials. Extensions and various head designs are available to customize for different sampling depths and conditions.
Key Features:
Extracts high-quality, relatively undisturbed cores
Ideal for peat, soft soils, and sediments
Hinged chamber allows for easy sample removal
Typically retrieves 50 cm long cores
Utilises Hex Quick Pin connections compatible with the wider auger range
The Russian Corer is available separately or as part of a kit. Our standard Russian Corer kit comprises;
Operation
The sampler is driven to the required sampling depth by pushing downwards on the handle or via percussive method using the slide hammer (optional). Once at depth the sampler is rotated 180degrees using the handle. During rotation the sampler body rotates with the vane remaining in position. A semi cylindrical sample is collected. Equipment is retrieved by pulling upwards or using reverse slide hammer method
