Gouge augers are a manual soil sampling tool designed for easy and efficient collection of shallow, undisturbed soil samples. Ideal for environmental, agricultural, and geotechnical studies, it allows for precise sampling of soil profiles with minimal disturbance.
Key Features:
-
Efficient Soil Collection: Easily collects soil samples with a half-cylinder design that preserves the soil profile.
-
Portable & Lightweight: Perfect for fieldwork and on-site analysis
-
Minimal Disturbance: Ideal for sampling in soft to medium soils without disrupting the natural layers.
- Piezometer Installation: Suitable for installation of narrow piezometers for groundwater or gas research
Options
Our gouge augers are available in Ø30mm or Ø60mm diameter and are 1m in length. Gouge augers are supplied with Hex Quick Pin connection with threaded connections available on request. For deeper sampling select the required number of extension rods (available in 0.5m and 1m) and the standard rubber coated auger handle. When sampling in firmer deposits consider adding the slide hammer
Operation
Typically used for collection of shallow samples to depths of around 2/3m the gouge auger is connected to extension rods and pressed into position by applying force to the handle. A slide hammer (percussive method) is available for medium to firm soil conditions.
