RBC flow monitoring flumes are specialized structures designed to measure water flow rates in smaller waterways, such as irrigation channels, ditches, and culverts. RBC flumes are an excellent flow monitoring solution for small surface water channels and deliver exceptional accuracy, particularly under low flow conditions in which proprietary flow sensors may struggle. There are various flume designs available, each selected to cater for the specified application, flow ranges and installation requirements. For environmental research applications we prefer RBC style flumes due to their trapezoidal construction, flow ranges and low flow accuracy.
Flux Enviro design and manufacture a range of RBC styles in house. Our flumes are manufactured from 316L stainless steel (2mm, seam welded) offering an exceptionally robust structure designed for both portable and long term deployments. Five flumes are available covering flow rates to 8.7, 24, 49, 86 and 145L/s.
Each flume is equipped with a printed gauge board for instant flow output in the field. Where continuous monitoring data is required, a sensor/logger can be deployed within the integrated stilling well. Each flume is supplied with a rating equation and copy of rating table hence field rating of the structure is not essential.
Note - Flux Enviro recommend that flumes are sized and located by an experienced Hydrologist familiar with open channel flow monitoring. The accuracy and validity of flow data generated from weirs and flumes is underpinned by hydraulic conditions and installation practices. Our team are experienced in this area and can guide you through the flume selection and installation process.
